As the new season is about to begin, Bastien “Bastossavoie” Amblard answered a few question about his 2017 experience.
Hi Bastien ! Could you tell us more about what you achieved and how your felt through 2017 ?
It was a pretty good year in my opinion and i’m satisfied with what it brought to me overall. I scored good performances during tournaments in the early 2017 (winning the Lyon’s Arcalan, 2nd at the Natarena, etc..). Then BeGenius recruited me, which was one more step to the professionnal gaming world for me and a huge pleasure to join such a team to evolve in. After that, I qualified for the Summer’s Prelim with Guntofire, which was one of the reasons why i wanted to join BeGenius. I also qualified to two ArmaCups during the season. Finally, I scored a great performance during the DH Valencia last summer. I was in 1-2, had no margin of error, and succeeded into getting back to the top of the swiss round to access the final game (with a 7-2 at the end), a final i’ll lose due to a disconnection so a bit disappointed about that.
Overall, it was a good year. Missing the qualification during the Summer for the Top 16 and my last game’s counter-performance during Sweden’s DH are disappointing events and i do hope i will do better in 2018.
What’s your best memory from 2017 ?
The qualification for the HCT Summer and the “remontada” i performed during the DH Valencia.
Now that Kobolds and Catacombs were released a month ago and the meta got more stable, what can you tell us about it ?
I love this new meta, even if the Priest is to me just has strong as before, a bunch of new decks appeared. Furthermore, the tournament’s meta also changed and that is the best result of this extension.
What’s your favorite deck so far in this new extension ?
I still love the Raza Priest deck, but i also enjoy the control Warlock.
Can you tell us quickly on how the game improved regarding the competition system, and your personnal opinion about it ?
Well, if i got this right, Challenger Cups are Swiss Round tournaments, and you have to reach top 1-2 to qualifiy for the next tournament. In the other tournament called Challenger Finals(which will gather all Challenger Cups finalists), the Top 8 will automatically be qualified for the HCT. I like this system, the only problem to me is that players like us can’t participate to those Challengers Cups as we qualified before for HCTs, so we have to get thos 45 qualification points only through the ladder.
What are your biggest goals for 2018 ?
Qualification for HCT of course, win as much tournaments as possible. Regarding the team, get our Top 3 French Team’s place back.
